SUNSET- WHY IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.

At Our Little Darling Photography, light is everything. It shapes the softness, the warmth, the glow and that timeless feel that defines your photos-and our local beaches in Dorset give us the perfect natural backdrop to work with it.

But not all light is created equal, and the time of day you book your session can completely transform the final look of your gallery.

GOLDEN HOUR – THE MAGIC MOMENT

Golden hour creates that soft, glowing light that happens shortly after sunrise or just before sunset. During this time, the sun sits low in the sky and creates magic:

• Warm, golden tones that flatter every skin tone
• Soft shadows that are gentle on the face
• A beautiful glow on the water and through the dunes
• A dreamy, calming atmosphere that you just can’t get in harsh midday sun

This is why I always recommend scheduling beach sessions either early in the morning or in the evening- trust me, it’s worth it. One late bedtime is worth the memories we can create.

MIDDAY SUN – WHY WE AVOID IT

Midday light can be:

• Harsh and direct, creating unflattering shadows.
• Too bright, especially for little eyes- no one likes a squinty photograph.

On a beach with no shade, this can make it harder to get the soft, natural look we’re aiming for.

So let’s work with the light

When we plan your session, I’ll suggest a time based on the season and light forecast. I’ll also factor in your little ones’ nap times or bedtime routines, so we can keep everyone comfortable and happy while still getting those golden tones. But trust in the process, plan an extra car-nap and lets go with it. These sessions are not made for formal posing and forced smiles.

We have F U N. We play, we run, we swing, and we laugh. A lot.

If it’s overcast? Don’t worry-soft clouds still create gorgeous, diffused light, and sometimes that moody sky adds a little drama in the best way.
